3 Benefits Of Honey On Natural Hair

Honey and its benefits on natural hair.

We all know about honey and its many benefits to our health, right? But do you also know that it's also beneficial to use it externally on your hair to achieve a long healthy hair?
Honey is one of the "superfoods" that's been used by many for centuries in many ways. There are several ways honey can be beneficial to you and your health, but I'll be talking about why you should be using it on your hair.

Benefits of using honey on your natural hair

1. Honey has antibacterial properties -
Because of its antibacterial properties, honey has been used to treat wounds successfully, this makes it wonderful for scalp irritations. It also contains antioxidant and enzymatic properties which makes it excellent for treating dry, itchy scalp and dandruffs. It also soothes skin irritations.

2. Honey is a known emollient -
This makes it wonderful for smoothening and softening the hair.
When the outer layer of the hair's cuticles is smoothened, the hair reflects light, thereby making it shinier. No one loves dull looking hair, no?

3. Honey is a humectant -
This means that it promotes the retention of water. As a result of this, honey is able to attract water molecules from the air and hold on to it longer. As our natural hair thrives on moisture, anything that attracts and keeps moisture in your hair should be your best friend really.

How to use honey on your hair

Honey as a deep conditioner

What you need -

* 2 tablespoons of raw organic honey.

* 2 tablespoons of either Coconut oil or Olive oil.

Process -

* Mix the honey and the coconut or olive oil together in a small bowl.

* Put the bowl into a pot of hot water to heat up the mixture ( not too hot though, warm enough to apply on your skin).

* Shampoo your hair and towel dry (always use a fibre towel or an old cotton tshirt, (I'll talk about this later on the blog)).

* Put your hair in sections and apply the honey and oil mixture all over your hair, section by section. Make sure to cover every inch of your hair from root to tip.

* Cover hair with a plastic cap and leave on for about 20 minutes.

* Wash it off and moisturise your hair with your  usual hair cream or oil.

Honey to clarify the hair and scalp

What you need -

* 2 tablespoons of raw organic honey.

* 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar.

Process -

* Mix the two ingredients together.

* Apply the mixture to your damp hair and cover with plastic cap.

* Leave on for about 15 minutes then wash off with warm water.

* Moisturise your hair as usual.

The apple cider vinegar and the honey when combined together, will clarify and cleanse your hair and scalp thoroughly. This help to remove product build-up and dirt hidden on your scalp.

You can do these 2 treatments once a week or once a month. Taking care of natural hair is about finding what works for you or finding out what your hair loves.

I'm sure this goes without saying, but always ensure you use raw organic products (honey, coconut oil, olive oil, apple cider vinegar).
