Okro Deep Conditioner For Soft, Smooth Natural Hair

Okro deep conditioner

What?? Okro in hair??? I know that's what brought most of you to this post. Well, you're not alone, that's the first thought I had when I heard about okro deep conditioner; until I tried it myself and was won over!
As I mentioned earlier in my welcome post on this blog, every DIY recipe or regimen I post here has been tried and tested by me personally, or at least someone close to me. So have no fear, I will not lead you astray, lol.
Okro or okra has been a staple food in most black communities for centuries, even is most Asian communities as well.
But as I've surprisingly discovered recently, you can also use it as part of your hair care regimen. Rastafarians have been using it to make and keep their dreadlocks healthy for many years and in the last few years, the rest of the natural hair community has discovered its great benefits on natural hair.

Okro contains mucilage, which is good for the hair and skin. It is also high in folic acid, vitamins A and C, calcium, zinc and most importantly biotin; which is very good for hair nourishment and rapid hair growth. This is probably the reason it is used in many high-end hair products.

This DIY okro hair treatment can be used in many ways, such as a deep conditioner treatment, hair rinse, leave-in conditioner, detangler or hair gel. The good thing about it is that it does not have any weird smell, in fact,  it doesn't seem to have any noticeable smell, which is great.

Using this okro recipe on your hair makes it soft and easy to comb. You can use it as a detangler, because of its 'slip' consistency, to remove all the knots and tangles on your hair so you can easily run your fingers through your hair or comb it with ease; thereby reducing breakage.

Consistent use of this okro treatment will leave you with a healthy hair and great curl definition! It's a great solution to dry, hard hair. It reduces frizz and makes your hair shiny and bouncy.

How to make Okro hair conditioner:

What you need -

* 4 - 5 okro fingers.
* 1 cup of water.
* 2 teaspoons of coconut oil.
* Aloe vera gel (Optional).
* Honey (Optional).

Process:

- Cut the okro fingers in large pieces.

- Put them in a pot and add water.

- Boil for about 5 minutes until it becomes thick and slimy.

- Turn off the fire and set to cool for about 10 - 15 minutes. (The longer you leave it to cool, the thicker it will become. Know the consistency you want).

- Pour it into a container through a mesh sieve.

- Add a few pumps of aloe vera gel, 2 teaspoons of coconut oil and a teaspoon of honey.

- Your okro hair treatment is ready to use!

          You can use it to deep condition your hair, as usual, use as a twist-out gel, leave-in conditioner, etc.

Note: This product can only be used for up to 7 days when refrigerated. So make it in small batches, don't make it and keep for a long period of time.
