4 Natural Remedies To Combat Dry, Itchy Scalp

4 natural remedies to combat dry itchy scalp

Itchy scalp is one of the many problems that torment women when it comes to our hair-care. Some of these scalp irritations are caused by a build-up of hair products on your scalp or a change of weather. Having a constantly itchy scalp that refuses to go away is a very annoying inconvenience.

If you have ever experienced this kind of head-banging disaster, you'll know what I mean; and as I can imagine, all you want is a relief.
Well, lucky for you, I have come to your rescue with these natural remedies that will help you win the battle against dry, itchy scalp!

These are the 4 ways to combat dry itchy scalp:

1. Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil, which is also known as Melaleuca Alternifolia, can be found in most shampoos and conditioners because of its ability to treat an itchy scalp, largely credited to its high antiseptic properties. Tea tree oil is antifungal, antiviral and antibacterial, which makes it a triple threat to scalp irritations. It is not recommended to use tea tree oil at its full strength; it's best to dilute it with water or a carrier oil before using it on any part of your body.

To treat your itchy scalp condition, put some diluted tea tree oil on a cotton ball and wipe (clean) your scalp with it. A little bit of tea tree oil goes a long way, you do not need to use much, a few drops will do.

2. Apple Cider Vinegar.

I wrote about apple cider vinegar and its amazing benefits earlier on this blog.
ACV is a must-have in the world of hair care. The antibacterial properties of ACV make it effective in combating dry, itchy scalp. It treats the itch in your scalp caused by bacteria build-up and any fungal conditions such as yeast, on your scalp. A high acidic environment is bad for yeast, so cleaning your scalp with ACV is helpful in ridding your scalp of yeast. ACV also has clarifying qualities and reduces hair porosity as well, because of its low pH balance.

To use, you can either pour some ACV on a cotton ball and wipe your scalp with it or you can rinse your hair with it after shampooing and conditioning. Make sure you dilute your apple cider vinegar before using it on your hair and scalp. A little bit of ACV goes a long way, you don't need to use much.
The best kind of ACV to use is raw, unfiltered, organic apple cider vinegar, with the "mother" in it.

3. Coconut Oil.

Coconut oil is effective in treating dry, itchy scalp because of the caprylic acid it contains. It obstructs the growth of fungus on the scalp.

To use, pour some coconut oil on a cotton ball and wipe your scalp with it. You can add some drops of tea tree oil in the coconut oil before using it on your scalp, but it's optional.
The best type of coconut oil to use is the unrefined, unfiltered, organic extra-virgin coconut oil.

4. Aloe Vera Gel.

Aloe vera gel is emollient (softens/soothes) and calming naturally. It is great at soothing the scalp, while also softening your hair and feeding your roots. It also soothes the stinging sensation of the itch.

To use, pour a little aloe vera gel on a cotton ball and wipe your scalp with it.
The best type of aloe vera gel to use is the organic aloe vera gel. You can get it out straight from the aloe vera plant or you can buy the gel commercially.
