The Secret Benefits of Rice Powder On Your Skin

Secret benefits of rice powder on your skin

When I wrote about the benefits of rice water hair treatment, I mentioned that there are several benefits of using rice powder on your skin.
If you're using rice just for cooking and eating, then you are definitely missing out on one of the best skin care ingredients out there! If you knew how beneficial rice powder can be to your skin, you'll use it on your skin daily.
Many skincare products sold in Asian countries contain rice powder as one of the main ingredients. This is because Asians are well aware of the powerful benefits of rice powder to the skin and have been using it for centuries to keep their skin soft, clear, tighter and younger looking.

I'm sure you'll agree with me that getting these benefits directly from the source is a better option than getting it from store bought products, complete with the added chemicals.
So, I'm going to be teaching you how to make rice powder by yourself at home and also how to use it as a facial mask to treat acne and acne scars, pimples and also to brighten your face and reduce the visible signs of ageing.

The benefits of rice powder on your skin

√ Rice powder contains a lot of vitamins and minerals that help to achieve a clean and flawless skin.

√ As rice powder is grainy in nature, it is able to exfoliate the skin, leaving it so soft and supple to the touch.

√ Rice powder is also used to brighten the skin, especially if you suffer from discolouration or hyperpigmentation.

√ Rice powder has oil-absorbing properties, which makes it perfect for acne-prone skin.

√ It also contains anti-aging properties, which delays the signs of ageing and keeps you looking younger for longer.

√ It is a good anti-inflammatory agent, so it soothes sunburns on your skin.

√ Rice powder will also tighten your skin and keep it firm, this will delay skin sagging, especially on your face.

√ It will also rejuvenate and add a much-needed glow to your skin.

√ Rice powder polishes away flaky and dead skin cells to reveal a smooth and silky skin.

√ Rice powder can also be used as a translucent powder (mix with corn starch) because of its oil-absorbing nature.

√ It can also be used to control underarm sweating(instead of using talcum powder) and it will brighten your underarm with regular use.

How to make homemade rice powder

How to make rice powder at home

1. Wash a cup of rice to remove dirt and dust.

2. Soak the rice in water for about 3 hours.

3. Drain the water and spread the rice out on a cotton towel so the excess water is absorbed overnight or however long it takes.

4. Pour some of the rice in a dry blender and blend very well.

5. Sieve the blended rice with a fine sieve, put the larger grains in the sieve back into the blender and blend some more. Repeat this process until all the rice is blended and sieved.

6. Dry the rice powder further, to prevent it from spoiling in a few days.
Here's one of the methods I use -
I preheat the oven, turn it off and put the rice powder inside and leave it there until the oven cools down. (Please monitor it so it doesn't go brown).

7. Your rice powder is ready to use.

How to use rice powder facial mask.

e. Leave on for about 20 minutes to dry on your face.

f. Wash off, pat your face dry and moisturise with natural oils.

Rice powder is safe enough to use daily if your face is not too sensitive. You can work out the regimen that's best for your own skin.

My family is from Japan and the women in my family have used this facial mask for centuries. Not just for face, we use it on our hair and body too.
I'm glad it's finally getting the attention it deserves!
Thanks for writing this Jennee.

That's great Anna! Thanks for reaching out. I've only just started using rice powder myself recently and the effect was almost immediately.
